Hello, I currently have a Fios G3100 router and E3200 MoCa range extender. It works fine but I want something that gives me more control and features, potentially like an OPNsense router with ubiquiti unifi access points or something. I do have Fios set top boxes, so i need to keep the G3100, and I would like to keep using the E3200 as an access point if possible. My house does not have Ethernet wiring throughout, only in my living room, hence the MoCa range extender.

Any suggestions on how to make this work? I’m thinking that I can put the OPNsense router between the ONT and G3100 and then just turn off DHCP on the G3100 and basically just use it as an access point and the E3200 should still work. Only issue is that I don’t believe I can use VLANS on the Fios gear. Open to suggestions!

To integrate an OPNsense router with your existing Fios setup, connect the OPNsense router directly to the ONT, then link the G3100 to it. Disable DHCP on the G3100 to use it as an access point. Your E3200 should still function as intended. You’re right about VLAN limitations on Fios gear, so plan your network layout accordingly to ensure seamless operation without VLAN support.
