Hi all, with BF coming and me saving all year for it, I’m looking to add another sata 20tb HDD to my Unraid!

Looking at serverpartsdeal, I’m only seeing:
- Seagate exos x20: $269.99 (Recertified)
- Seagate ironwolf pro: $329.99 (Recertified)

Would anyone have any advice or recommendation?
My primary concern is noise and reliability (but it seems like a crapshoot with HDD and comes down to luck of the draw).
Also open to 18tbs and below but because I only have 5 bays in my jonsbo n2, I figured that the opportunity cost might not be worth it.

I currently run 2 x 20 tb ironwolf pros and I find the read/write noises a little loud but manageable - so anything around that range would be fine.

Thanks all!

You just check the best $?TB ratio and warranty time. That’s really all the things you need when choosing the drive. Also, remember that there are only 3 brands Seagate, WD and Toshiba to look for.

If you can drop down just 2TB, Best Buy has 18TB EasyStore’s for $199.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=18+TB&_dyncharset=UTF-8&_dynSessConf=&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=&sp=&qp=&list=n&af=true&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

That’s a really good price @ $11/TB, but I find it odd the 16 TB and the 20 TB of the same model cost more - $17.5/TB for 16TB and $20/TB for the 20TB

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data – legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they’re sure it’s done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time ™ ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
