I work in high ticket remote sales, a space where most roles are 1099 contracts. However, I was just offered an insane role, great earning potential, benefits, etc, and it is a W2 role. I have been DNing in Mexico for the past 2.5 months but I’m heading back to the US to spend the holidays with my family. After the holidays, my plan was to go to Argentina, but my question is… is this possible on a W2 contract? Just wanted to get everyone’s insight on this. I’m sure it really comes down to the company and their rules, but is there anything inherent about a W2 contract that prevents you from working outside the US? TIA!

If you want permission, ask… otherwise do your best to hide your travel.

Your taxable address will have to be somewhere in the US, ideally in a no income tax state like Florida. But I think you have figure out what states your company is registered to hire in. You can just ask your recruiter about what states employees currently live in.

After that, as long as the company is cool with 100% remote, I’d just get back on the road and head to Argentina.
