I have a 200Mbps download plan with Optimum. I’m looking to buy a new modem and wondering if a DOCSIS 3.1 modem is worth the extra price. I do not plan to upgrade my plan since 200 is more than enough for me. Would there be any significant difference in performance over a DOCSIS 3.0?

Nope, but I’ve heard that cable companies are working to phase out the DOCSIS 3.0 modems, so you might be better off getting a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. You can get a refurbished Arris SB8200 for a decent price.

There likely won’t be any difference. But if your ISP is using DOCSIS 3.1, then you will be helping them by not using DOCSIS 3.0.

Docsis 3.1 is the absolutely minimum I’d get in 2023.
