Im not much of a gamer (ironically I make games for a living) but I made a bet with my kids that if the Detroit Lions make the playoffs this year I’ll buy them a system, and its looking like almost a lock to happen, so I want to get in on some Holiday deals.
This is their first non-Nintendo system so I’m a little lost on which way to go at this point in the generation cycle. For reference they’re 7 and 9 year old boys and are gonna be new to gaming that isnt based around crafting or Italian brothers. (i made them use my old NES, then SNES first, then got them a Switch a couple years back)
xbox w/ gamepass. ez. both are good consoles xbox is just easier.
Xbox, Just for the Gamepass.
If they are anything like the Cousins or siblings of friends i was around, a single game will hardly occupy them for long, so spending 7/14$ is gonna keep them more occupied and give them access to online
And if you have a PC you can go for the 14$ option and also use the Gamepass on PC
Xbox because of game pass. Insane value that won’t have you spending hundreds a year on games
PS5

Do their friends have systems? If so, what’s the most popular, go with that.
-
Look at Microsofts Gamepass. If youre willing to pay the monthly subscription cost, this is the way to go (assuming #1 doesn’t matter).
-
If not interested in Gamepass, Playstation has better exclusive games.
Seriously, best part about going is building long sustainable friendships, figure out what their friends play and buy that.
This is coming from a long time Xbox guy (just happened to grow up in the Halo hype days so all my friends and I grew up on Xbox) turned to PC gaming. No bias towards Xbox.
