What would be the best settings to export for uploading to instagram? What settings make it so that instagram doesn’t compress them and ruin the quality?

Alsodo you add the white borders in photoshop (and then redo the export settings) or someway else?

Thank you!!

I go to a couple of photography forums, and they only allow 1600px on the widest side, so I set LRC to export at that size. however, when I purposely process an image for IG, I still leave it at 1600px, but I crop it to 1:1…ish. I also tend to oversharpen just a hair for IG, as I find you lose just a bit of IQ when it uploads there.

I use this cheat-sheet: https://sproutsocial.com/insights/social-media-image-sizes-guide/

Bottom line: The image will be displayed at 1080 pixels wide and up to 1350 pixels tall, depending on the aspect ratio. So that is what you’d input for resizing. Of course it should be JPEG sRGB; the quality slider you can experiment with, but I doubt you’ll see a difference in practice on most photos between 70, 80, 90, and 100.

A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.
