Does anyone have any handy resources for doing electrical work on a boat? I have to update most of my electrical systems as part of a repower I’m doing. The stakes are pretty high with electricity so I want to be sure I’m doing it right.

I started off knowing nothing, and now know that I knew less than I thought I did. But, Nigel Calder’s book Boatowner’s Mechanical & Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair, and Improve Your Boat’s Essential Systems is what has always been mentioned. I have found it a great resource as I’ve been going through the trouble-shooting routine over and over.

I’ll second Calder’s book. And I found Will Prowse to be a good resource as well. https://youtube.com/@WillProwse

Check out the articles on Marine How To, as well, for some more in-depth talk about various electrical devices.

Good place to look is for camper van resources. Many are 12V, and I believe boats tend to be 24/48V, but most guides I’ve found for my van reference boats throughout. Victron and renology both have a ton of their own material.
