So the vatican, after emphasizing homosexuality is a sin, has officially declared they are indeed people and worthy of blessing. I guess after blessing fornicators, blasphemers, adulterers, and the obscenely rich they realized it was ok.

TeChNiCaLlY, under Catholic doctrine, being sexually attracted to or being in love romantically with someone of the same sex haven’t ever been a sin. Just having sex with them is. What’s new is that they are now willing to bless your sexless non-marriage homo life partnership. It’s simultaneously useless to any gay Catholics, and a huge middle finger to the more conservative side of the church.

I just searched and it says “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind”. So if it is limited to practices doable with women… can I jerk off or suck cock?

It’s also based on Paul’s ramblings, so I’m not entirely clear how you get from the biblical text to the official Catholic doctrine.

Who knew that gays were actually people too? The rightwingers’ heads in the US Catholic League are going to explode! 🤯 The Methodist Church has been splitting apart because of this. Progress in removing gays as being classified as second class citizens marches forward - whether the conservatives want it too, or not. Just like time marches on. Some gays will say “Who wants the blessing of the church?”, but others will embrace a “right” of dignity long denied.

The progressive congregations that go along with these changes are experiencing a membership free-fall. The paradox is that the more congregations embrace modern values, the more surviving congregations promote the opposite.

Actually they are just 2 different churches. Jesus was a brown-skinned liberal so I wouldn’t count Him out.

That’s a liberal thing to say but how liberal is the policy of prohibition of divorce and reinforcement of the law (I come to fulfill, not destroy…keep the commandments). Also, how liberal is the message of tolerating government oppression?

Don’t get ahead of yourself, gays are now on the same level as cars and dogs since those could be blessed in a catholic church before
