Have you finally done a thing that you have been putting off for long? Figuring the invisible zipper? Putting sleeves on correctly on first try? Conquered a new fiddly fabric? Created the most perfect fit?
It has been downhill since the stripped dress I’m afraid, but that dress has the most perfectly matching stripes all around and that makes me very proud! (I have also finally brought my machine to the repair shop and it’s running much more smoothly, huge improvement)
I’m a newbie sewist, and this week I finally sewed with jersey fabric!!! It was just a simple dolman sleeve top, but I feel I’ve overcome a mental hurdle because it turned out fine!! Now at some stage I have a jumpsuit to attempt in the same fabric…
I made my first item of clothing! I had an old pair of PJ trousers that were really comfortable, but they were falling apart. I unpicked them and used them as a pattern using some jazzy material.
It was a learning curve, particularly the pockets and elasticated drawstring waistband. But I figured it out!
This year so far, the best thing was learning to confidently sew buttonholes with my machine. I’m finally at the point where I can just put the foot on, get the settings right, and go; without doing a test run every time.
Matching stripes is a great accomplishment and so satisfying! Mine is attempting a set of 3 maxi dresses (mom, daughter, doll matching set) with a fabric I have never worked with before: rayon jersey. It took a lot of adjustments before I got a decent stretchy seam without the machine eating the fabric. I won’t say I’ve conquered it completely and it’s about as frustrating as working with wet spaghetti, but the dresses are slowly coming together. I do need to replace my needle often; does anyone else have problems with rayon dulling the needle quickly?
Saturday, I drafted and made my first top block, and it did fit almost perfectly on the second try (first one did have a big error in measurements)
