Imagine a world where billionaires having petty arguments result in functionality being remotely removed from your $40,000 device…

TL;DW: Disney decided to cease advertising on X (formerly Twitter) and not long after, the Disney+ app was removed from many owners’ Tesla vehicles. Users who have already used the app shouldn’t be affected by this, however those who haven’t will no longer have access to this functionality.

This video follows on the heels of GM announcing removal of CarPlay and Android Auto from their future vehicles, indirectly reducing the freedom granted to vehicle owners of what they can run on their infotainment system. Running apps that provide traffic warnings and additional functionality will be no more, likely paving the way for more unnecessary subscription addons - and even situations like this where functionality can just be taken away without warning

Maybe in the future we can get AI driven algorithms that provide ultra personalized feeds so you never have to see anything that doesn’t personally affect you again

I don’t understand why there isn’t a car maker who dips into the analog market. Every single fucking vehicle nowadays is jammed full with entertainment suites, internet uplinks, integrated screens and displays. Fuck right off.

All I want is a car that meets modern quality and safety criteria, but has no smart or other bullshit at all because I don’t need it and don’t want to be tracked. Maybe a tuner radio with an aux cord but that’s it.

I guess there’s Bugatti, which is pretty low tech and “appreciat[es] analog fascination”. Not a good recommendation because they’re not fuel efficient, among other reasons, but it’s all I can think of.

The market just isn’t large enough, most people want GPS. I think a flip out screen like Bentley’s that’s very basic and without connectivity unless connected to your phone would be great. I also think consumers are kind of dull and would reject it for not having built in functionality though. Plus even if I’d like that, it would be me and twelve others and the car would be discontinued after a year.

Have a look at Dacia cars. They should fit your needs.

Bet there’s no chance of Google or other providers getting together and removing their apps from Tesla’s in solidarity right?

Looks like phone vent holders are back on the menu, boys

Ironically, no vent to attach it to in recent Teslas. The air vents have hidden baffles. Or whatever they’re called.

I’m sure there’s a spot somewhere for a 3M sticky mount, or even a suction mount to the glass.

Imagine the dealer or manufacturer removing features remotely from a vehicle sitting on your property.

Couldn’t be me.
