After spending a few minutes, it seems like a mix of mastodon/twitter/reddit. I don’t think it’ll take the place of lemmy/kbin
It’s too late Jimmy. The time to start on a viable Reddit alternative was more than a year ago. People looking for other options have already found them.
Im on it and like the 2.0 look of wiki tribune. They are still figuring out some things but it has great promise. Right now a discussion is going on features like branching. That being said I have not been able to login since the weekend and hit the contact to let them know but I have not gotten a response. Yes I cleared cookies and tried incognito.
As an active Wikipedian, Vulcan sincerely doubt that this Jimbo’s attempt will be successful at all. An ActivePub support will be welcome however.
His track record with social media isn’t encouraging.
It looks like nobody remembers TPO, Jimmy Wales’ attemp to create a social network
I don’t have a high opinion of this.
What has Jimmy Wales been doing recently?
- Losing a bunch of money creating WikiTribune
- Pivoting that failed venture to WT Social. Quote, “However, as of November 7, 2019, Wales stated that he had just learnt about ActivityPub and was looking into it.” It took him four years to get around to it?
- Just now taking advantage of us to start yet another social media network. And what does he do first thing? Ask for donations.
Yeah I’m not going anywhere near there.
