Do you recognise any of the sets these came from

Well, it’s easy to spot Indiana Jones whip unless that already existed from earlier sets. That must have existed beforehand?

Just to the bottom left of the whip is a grey T piece with what looks like a tin can attached. I had loads of those from my 80s space sets. I used them for detailing on spaceships or as a gun for the minifigs.

You’ve got so much there including classic castle stuff.

The whip is from the Indiana Jones temple set that included the completely round ball piece. It’s one of the last sets that I picked up. The sets range from the early 90s to late 2000s. Part of it is from my childhood and the rest is from an older sibling.

the grey piece might originally have been the end of a fire hose

Oooh, that’s sounds right. Attached to some thin rubber tubing?

that bag is worth its weight in gold. hard to say any specific set from completely random pieces, but there’s a lot of good shit in there, absolutely.

The black jacket with green sleeves and the red X is from the Extreme Team kits, the head is mismatched but the torso will be from one of these kits:

The head I do recognize, it’s likely from Aquasharks or some other Aquanauts spin-off (the Aqua Dozer was my favorite), but it looks like it was also used in a couple of Hoth kits:

I’ll have to look some more but that’s what jumped out first.
Cool collection!

I see a shield, a flag, and an axe. Maybe some castle/medieval sets in there? Might be worth comparing to parts lists of castle sets from that era. Are these from before or after the 2004 light-grey colour debacle?

The flag, sword, axe and shield were all in a castle set I got for Christmas in the mid 80s! I presume they kept producing sets with them well after that though.

Yep, recognize them from sets I got in the early 90s!

Brickset.com might help you jog your memory and identify some sets, after that finding instructions might be another challenge though…

Well you sent me off down a little rabbit hole. The set I got was in 1984. Looks like they kept producing sets with that shield type well into the late 90s.

There’s a video here that covers everything from 1978.

edit: didn’t see your recommendation until after but appreciate it :)
