Hi everyone, welcome, ect… It might go without saying but lemmy is open source! The platform is written in rust and typescript (which is a big pro for me). I’m sure we all have our little gripes with the platform, and those are fixed with collective teamwork :)
These are “good first issues”, here is a contributing guide), and here is a chat where developers coordinate.
Let’s make the best link aggregator!

That’s how I started contributing.
I can make a clicking bot using bash. Is this enough? /joke
Serious now, is there any way for non-coders to help out?
Yes! The contributing guide mentions that there are plenty of other ways including design, translations, donations, and even just reporting issues you come across! Everything can be a huge help.
Contribute to Kbin! :)

How hard is it to get spun up on rust? I have been a dev for the better part of a decade but pretty much exclusively in java and python (and a wee bit of dartlang - yuck), primarily on the backend of a SaaS product. I’ve never contributed to open source before.
If i can find something i can help with i will do it, ok now i see, now i understand, because sometimes people have complaints and issues with the software but since lemmy is open source then it wil be easier to resolve these issues if people contribute to it
