I hope this question is allowed here (since it is one of the search engines that i now use instead of google). I’m trying out Kagi. For the trial, you get to have 100 free searches, i belief. Is there a way to see how many searches i used up? I can only find stats for Kagi, not for my personal stats. How do you all like Kagi? And if so, do you pay for it? I’m considering paying, but i would like to have some insight into how many searches i actually perform on average in a month time. I honestly have no idea. What i also do lately is ask a question to a LLM (i found Petal), so that i have a start on where to search for more precisely. Sometimes, i get incorrect answers, but often it helps me get more of a handle on what i should be looking for when using a search engine. For example, i switched to Linux and Petal helps me understand some things better, which i can then use to do a more precise search.

I like Kagi a lot, as it’s the only search engine where I don’t find myself falling back to Google because of bad results. I’d say the results are better than Google. Of course you also get some nice features like manually ranking pages. The only problem is they broke the iOS Safari extension in an update a few days ago, so searches sometimes don’t use Kagi, but I’m sure they’ll fix that soon.

You have to install the new Kagi extension from the Store

I know, same problem though. I already contacted their support, it’s a known problem.

Disabling then reenabling the extension fixed the issue for me

Kagi has fastgpt which should also do what petals is doing for you! Except the quality of answers are very good along with the sources. Furthermore Kagi can create a summary of all results by clicking “quick answer” link in the results. Very useful to get an overview and see if the query is what I was looking for. Lastly they will introduce reportedly introduce “assistants” later in Jan… don’t have any experience with it but looks like LLMs interacting w search results

Thank you for your reply. Yes, i noticed fastgpt, but it’s only for paying members, i think. I wanted to pay, but i have an issue with a field input, when i wanted to pay. I contacted them, hopefully it gets solved, because i quite like Kagi and all their options! Sorry for the late reply, it only just now showed up in my inbox!

Kagi is doing surprizingly nice job with the search results. I was an early adopter with beta program, and can happily tell that it has been several months since last time I did the “g!”. I’m in professional plan ($10 as of now). It is so good that I forget it’s existence. It is just there and working nicely!

Yes, i really like it too. And i also like Searx, so if people can’t or don’t want to pay for a search engine, that would also be a good option. I haven’t used google in a long time now, but i’ve been somewhat of a drifter; for years i used startpage, until i read that they had been taken over by a company that is specialized in targeted advertising. Discovered Ecosia, which also is not that reliable anymore, etc. It’s quite a chore to build my digital armor against shady businesse.
