I feel free !
Thanks to Power Delete Suite.
I actually run cupoftea.social on mastodon so I was already very familiar with the fediverse. The more platforms for it the better.

PowerDeleteSuite doesn’t get everything. It only goes through your New, Hot, Top & Controversial lists, but reddit has been limiting the comments available in these lists for a few months now.

For example, if you have a link to an old Top comment, you might find several low karma (but positive) replies underneath that reddit didn’t touch.

What you need to do to get everything is make a GDPR request and use the csv files with shreddit (the github version, not the website). The GDPR files contain links to every single comment, so you can get everything. However shreddit uses the API, and almost certainly won’t work after 1 July - also reddit seem to be stalling on following through on GDPR requests now.

Lastly, some comments have been coming back after being deleted by these tools. Supposedly this is to do with reddit’s CDN architecture, but who knows. I wouldn’t be surprised if they restore a bunch of comments on 1July, then if your account is already deleted you will struggle to do anything about that. It’s probably a good idea to retain your count for the time being, so that you can confirm everything is still gone.

Please don’t make the mistake of deleting your account. it disassociates your data and it has become clear that mass deletion tools can’t remove all your posts. You really do want your account after the 30th so you can send a legal take down notice as an extra special fuck you to Reddit.

If you’re in Europe you’re legally entitled to have your data removed. If Reddit keeps up this crap, I’ll do that after June 30th.

How will these tools (power delete, shreddit, redact.dev etc) behave after July 1st? Will users still be able to nuke their content or do they need to hurry tfu before the fatidic date?

Not sure about the others, but Power Delete Suite will still work. It runs locally in your browser in the user’s preexisting auth context. To reddit, it’s not going to look any different than someone manually editing/deleting their posts through a browser, except the rate at which those actions are performed.

It’s open source, you can see exactly what it does and how it works.

Thank you! I’m not sure it’ll be the same for shreddit as it must be registered as a “script” application on reddit in order to work so I’m guessing it’s using API.

That’s correct, it is using the API. If it’s being registered as an app in reddit for your user, that’s shreddit requesting authorization to get OAuth tokens for your user.

I just deleted mine as well after not using Reddit for more than a total of about a half hour in the past week. Didn’t feel a thing, either. My phone’s battery life has improved drastically and so has my mental health. It’s actually to the point where I’m not sure if I even care to be here or any other Reddit alternatives. I understand they’re all growing but none of it feels the same, and is it really all so bad to not feel the need to be on social media every waking hour?
