I’m thinking about doing a regular weekly thread (if there is enough interest) to talk about our plans for the weekend and week ahead, as well as talking about what you have actually done. So if you have plans you want to share, are looking for ideas or venues, or want to review somewhere you have been, this is the place to do it.

I will be heading in to Open House Melbourne on Sunday. I managed to get a ticket to one booked event and will look at a couple of open places as well. I might try and get in to the Botanic Gardens for Lightscape as well before it closes.

I’ve pulled together a few links of things happening this week (I definitely won’t have time to do this regularly!) for anyone looking for something to do - please link anything else interesting you know about.

Shot in the Heart of Australia photography exhibition, East Melbourne, 27 July - 7th August

Gertrude Street Projection festival runs from 27 July to 6 August

Open House Melbourne Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July. Booked events are mostly booked out, but there are a number of open activities available.

Lightscape at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens is on until Sunday 6th August

Springvale Snow Fest, Sunday 30th July

Mt Martha Observatory - Public Stargazing nights held the first Friday of each month. Booked out for this month, but worth keeping in mind for the future.

This is a great idea. We’ll be heading to Lightscape during the week, it’s a bit cheaper then. I’ll also be taking the kid to Collingwood children’s farm- excited to show her where we got her.

I was just having a look at the Lightscape tickets, and both days this weekend are sold out, Saturday 5th is sold out and Sunday 6th is listed as “selling fast” so there are not many weekend options left.

Edit: actually I take that back - there are more weekend options available, it’s just the first couple of time slots which show on the calender which are sold out, if you click the “more” button at the bottom you can still get tickets for the later times.

I wanted to go to Jack’s Magazine as part of Open House Melbourne but the mini peelers have spoken: we’re going to see Across the Spiderverse and then Timezone. I’m gonna need my squishy earplug things!

Love this idea, if anyone is training for a half or full marathon come on down to Albert Park for a Sunday run with the crew training for the Melbourne Marathon this year.

Well, Open House Melbourne was a bit of a bust. I only managed to get tickets to one thing, and that was cancelled!

I did have a nice walk along the Yarra though. I was inspired by a “self guided walk” put out for the Open House weekend focusing on the north bank of the Yarra where the council have been doing a lot of work. I would not have gone that way without seeing that, especially because I had not realised that it was actually possible to walk that whole way along that side of the river.
