Acrylic paint on canvas.
Was able to create raised texture, I really enjoy that when working with acrylic :) I work without a reference so I just had a quick Google search before starting and then painted off the top of my head, so it might not be accurate @-@
This is great â itâs fun and pleasing to look at. Well done! For me, the most interesting parts are the thick layering of blue to create that impasto effect, and the octopusâs arms breaking out of the bounds of the canvas onto the blank void. I like where youâre pushing up against the boundaries of how youâre conventionally supposed to paint, would love to see more of that if you do this again.
Questions: Why did you Google search before starting this? And do you have any favorite artists / cartoonists / painting styles?
Thank you so muchhhh Ur comment made me rlly happyyyy!! I google searched âoctopusâ and there is a feature where u can look at a 3D model of it. I do a lot of different things so I canât really point out a certain style I like bestâŚ
When painting this I first made a very rough sketch (itâs was ugly af) then painted the bg over it and color blocked the basic shapes while also building up paint to raise the texture, lastly I added all the details.
Yes! And the shading looks very clean too.
Iâd be curious to see what the very rough sketch looks like. Painting from your memory might feel vulnerable but yields much more interesting results in the end â Georgia OâKeeffe didnât need her flowers to look perfect, she just painted how she felt they looked, and that made them all the more beautiful. I hope you keep developing your style, without fear of being wrong.
Thatâs a lovely octopus!
