I tend to use maps from a search browser and it suddenly occurred to me that if the search engine I used defaulted to open street maps I would use it. Do any search engines default map searches to open street maps?

@HubertManne Qwant.com uses “qwant maps”, which is basically OpenStreetMap in a different branding.
DuckDuckGo has Apple Maps as provider, which is partially based on OSM (but, meh). However, the bang !osm will take you to OpenStreetMap (and !wosm brings you to the OSM-wiki)

i recently learned on my android phone that after i disabled the default mapping app [google “maps”] it gave me the option to open maps from websites and other apps in one of the different mapping apps i had installed at the time: StreetComplete, Organic Maps [both OSM-based] and Randomnautica [which defaults to and re-enabled google “maps”] and gave options to open once in app chosen or to use it every time.

i am not sure if you use android, this is moot on desktop and others. commenting with the hope it might help someone someday. i hope this post isn’t too old to be commenting on.

I go by the motto that a post is never to old to be commented on. I sorta hated with some forums where topics would get auto locked or something due to age.
