While I personally disagree with this (doing this really left a bad taste), but I understand and totally not judging people that did this, especially one with situation like OP (as long as they can also back it up, as in actually trying to deliver). It’s unfortunate that this is how the interviewing/hiring process works these days, but it is what it is.
