I worked on this game in QA. When we got new builds, I was the one who got to create save files for the rest of the team so they didn’t have to start from the beginning each time. Got to the point where I could beat it in about 6.5 hours and minimal upgrades (only the time-slowing spell, iirc). Not bad for a chicken chaser!

Hem people say it sounds like a fun job, I ask them if playing the same broken 3 levels of Barbie Horse Adventures 8 hours a day, 6-7 days a week is their idea of fun.

8 hours a day, 6-7 days a week

Depends on the paycheck. Hopefully it was decent with overtime.

I played this game as a kid, and I remember it being really hyped, but I also remember the game feeling pretty short. I think I beat it in a day close to launch and never really picked it up again. It’s very believable that you could beat it in 6.5 hours.

My only problem with The Lost Chapters is that they changed Jack of Blades’ voice to a generic deep demonic-sounding one. His original voice was better.

You wanna feel old? The Nintendo 64 was released 27 and a half years ago. That one hurt me to hear.

Even though the world wasn’t tremendously large, it was extremely immersive. All the nicknames and the cool ways in which your character developed based on how you played was awesome and so much fun. They tried to recreate it over and over and all Peter Molyneux had to do was make what he made bigger

I got an Xbox second hand after being a PlayStation family all my life. It had this an another similar game that I think had dragons that were both so much fun.

It’s truly incredible how Microsoft just completely let the ball be dropped on this series for over a decade. This could’ve been one of their huge exclusive properties. Guess it still could, depending on if the reboot is any good.

The main theme of Fable and the music box from Fable 2 are permanently engraved into my memory.

The first game was great, though flawed. The developers made odd decisions like having skill points put into Will graphically age your character, or the shield spell making you practically invincible and also preventing hits taken from lowering your combo (allowing you to accumulate 100x+ XP boosts with ease in places with respawning enemies like the graveyard or town guards, then drinking XP potions for massive levels), or the dynamic economy being so broken that with just a few points in the charisma equivalent you could literally buy things back for less than you just sold them for and create infinite money.

Man I miss it.
