The Swedes should be grateful if anything, but I imagine their response is typical lib outrage instead. All this has shown (as always) the reality of âNordic neutralityâ though- officially NATO or not, does it matter all that much when that is considered?
Interestingly, I recall seeing that Sweden is kinda split on NATO, and in particular younger people largely oppose joining it. This was one of the reasons they didnât do a referendum on this. It was too important a thing to let the unwashed masses decide on.
Split in a way I guess. It jumped to over 50% soon after Russian invasion of Ukraine and seems to have (so far) stayed there. And those opposing it were only at 19% when the decision to apply for membership was made. Most recent poll I found was 62% for, 22% against.
