This is yet another reason why Linux stands to benefit from solutions like Flatpak. It’s a pain for developers to support so many desperate distributions including ones which may elect to modify their code.

Flatpak is not a native solution for Linux, unfortunately. And we have a Flatpak build of BOINC (supported by a volunteer): https://flathub.org/ru/apps/edu.berkeley.BOINC
