Congratulations to the Top 8 players at Pro Tour The Lord of The Rings!
Oh that are a lot of LOTR cards there 😐
I’m curious what we see on August 7th’s ban announcement. I can’t imagine anything is going to be touched in Modern, definitely not Standard. I could see Historic nerfing The One Ring by making it have text saying “Only 1 copy can be in your deck” which would be a fantastic upgrade in my opinion. I could also see Historic nerfing Orcish Bowmasters but I don’t think they’re going to hit that one right now. It’s a shame because of how many decks suffer from the ping but I don’t think that’s enough to warrant changing anything right now. Elves suffer, soul sisters/lifegain kinda suffers, those combo decks with Yawgmoth may or may not suffer much. Aggro is already difficult to play but I don’t think it’s that hard to overcome.
People have criticised my Tron deck for aspects it shares with Christian Calcano’s XD
So we have both Jake Beardsley in his PT debut and Kai Budde in his 7363626th PT top 8. Pretty cool.
It should have them there further down on the page. https://www.magic.gg/news/pro-tour-the-lord-of-the-rings-top-8-players-and-decklists
I’m just really happy they brought the Pro Tour back. I believe they stated it was over in lieu of a different professional tournament structure. But now it appears we have the Pro Tour in it’s original form back? I’m still not 100% sure what the path is for someone to get into this tournament but it seems at least closer to what it was in the beginning.
@mike
You can get to the pro tour by
Winning a Regional Championship Qualifier at a local game store (or being runner-up in a two-slot RCQ)
then doing well at the Regional Championship (the number of PT invites varies from region to region)
I’m sure there’s a path to the PT on MTGO and maybe even MTGA too.
