This is so annoying. They are acting like they were doing such a good deed offering email for “free” to their customers. But all the customers never assumed it was free they saw it as an included service in their broadband plan.

Interesting!

Spark is already one of the most expensive internet options. But many people have had the @xtra.co.nz emails for decades and if you leave Spark you lose access to your email (or, I guess, can keep it if you pay $6 a month).

Interesting they now want to discourage customers from being locked in to their service. Maybe they hope to compete on price by cutting this, or maybe the price per customer is too high as many people now use free options.

I agree with you, but at the same time…who has an isp linked email anymore?

As part of my degoogling I ended up on Fastmail + 1Pass and my own domain which is the endpoint for masked emails. It works great and no online services get my actual email address.

Enough people where they don’t want to pay to support it. I think its better to use an isp email than use Google Gmail.

Personally I use proton though.
