I was a huge anime fan back when i was younger, around 2017ish i switched to reading a lot of light novels instead. So hundreds of books later im having more issues finding anything to read. But i also have a lack of interest for non anime books and its rather annoying. I read through a song of ice and fire a while ago and loved it. I planned to delve into more american literature at the time, yet i went straight back to the same old stuff, light novels.

Im hoping i can get recommendations and let peer pressure kick in to give some books a shot! So if anyone could point me in any direction to go id appreciate it.

You’re description makes them sound very animeish, which is exactly what i was hopeing for. Have you read Japanese light novels yourself, and if so would you be able to tell if any of them are similar to the books you recommend.

Is he that the author? I tend to like longer series of books, most of what i read in light novel form have ten+ books. But most of them are a little under the first harry potter book’s word count.

Yes he’s one of the most prolific modern writers. Has his own youtube channel too where he recently put a video of what book of his you might want to try if youre reading his books for the first time. You’ll definetely find smth you like there.

Edit: https://youtu.be/SVsFurvvkhs?feature=shared

There you go, a 3 minute video. Hope you find smth you like.

You’ll love the Stormlight Archives then. It’s very anime. Crazy magic powers and giant super swords. Most of the fandom thinks the best way to do a TV adaptation would be to animate it

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is another one I think you’ll especially like. It’s inspired by Hikaru no Go, Your Name, and Final Fantasy 10

So these are a bit old - like the 60s - so there are a few bits that feel a bit wrong in 2024. But not many, and they’re otherwise great. You mentioned anime, these books are from one of those comic strips you used to get in the back pages of newspapers. Comic guy wrote the books, they’re very easy to read, the characters are vivid, lots of fun. Just cos stuff is old doesn’t mean it’s shit, give em a try.
