I like it, so I know it’ll never happen. Some gun control would be nice too. And $20 fed minimum is probably too much
Transition to metric system
Lol what
The list loses a lot of credibility for being all over the damn place. Like metric is already used. My second grader is being introduced to metric and my sixth grader uses it exclusively. Regular ol public schools.
Theirs some good ideas with nonsense sprinkled in and the occasional bullet that makes you wonder if this is an outline for a middle school ELA quarterly assignment.
I still see miles per hour when driving. I still see ounces at the grocery store. Good to hear that your child is learning the metric system.
Every food/drink product I see at the grocery store has both US customary and metric units in use, e.g. all the 16.9 fl oz bottles also say 500 mL and I think all the foods are labelled in both oz/lb and grams/kg. I usually see things involving measurements in cm/m as well as in/ft, but not speed since nobody here knows what the fuck a kilometer looks like
I wouldn’t be opposed to any of these, except I would question streamlining work visas. I wouldn’t want our country to bypass background checks, or other security measures by shortening the time needed to streamline those visas.
Oh, and something that would help me greatly (not sure how others feel), but an automatic investigation into any claims of being bullied out of employment by gangs, or other such groups. I don’t know if others have experienced this situation, but when you’re poor, going through divorce proceedings, have children to raise, are sinking in debt, and dealing with health problems, the last thing you need is to have some local gangs bully you out of work with death threats. Your plan looks fine, but I also need a guaranteed safe place to live and work, and no politician seems to want to address this topic because it isn’t about money, or some measure on the ballot.
Businesses shouldn’t be allowed to purchase residential houses, they can do apartments but no family homes, even if it’s split.
Political donations should be illegal except from a private civilian who must follow all rules and limitations. If a corporation thinks a specific politician is in their best interest the corporation’s then the only option should be employees should be the ones to donate their personal money up to their limit and not funded from the company itself, a business or pact should have no sway in an election and should only be influenced by individual voters. That way the individual can decide if that politician is best suited for the country or just their business.
Abortion is important, but constitutional amendments are difficult so let’s make it count: bodily autonomy. This includes abortion but also assisted suicide, personal drug use, tattoos, gender reassignment, and much more.
I feel like that could backfire. The antivax movement would use it to try and kill off all compulsory vaccinations leading to a resurgence in otherwise rare diseases. ERs would hesitate to perform lifesaving operations without consent over fear of being sued later.
Then there is the question of who makes bodily autonomy decisions for children and people unable to make decisions for themselves. If parents, you could see an increase in religiously motivated mutilations. If the state…
People already do medically unnecessary genital mutiliaton to babies (circumcision). Parents have autonomy over their children until they reach the age of reason, or they become legally adults. I think pregnancy would have to create legal adulthood.
ER and Good Samaritan laws already indicate that when unresponsive, consent to save a life is implied. You can do CPR on an unresponsive person without repercussions.
For the vaccines, people should definitely be free not to do it, but then they are not admitted to public school. They are quarantined when they go to a hospital. They cant travel on airplanes or public transit. Just like you’re free to get face tattoos but some people might not want to look at you. Should we outlaw face tattoos? No, that should be unconstitutional. I don’t have a face tattoo and I don’t think anybody should, but I would fight for their freedom to make their own choice. It doesn’t have to be a good decision, it just has to be their own decision.
Of course there are details to hash out and decide in the courts, but that is the case with all good rights, even freedom of speech.
You are more optimistic than I am. I worry a particularly “slanted” Supreme Court might interpret school vaccine requirements, quarantine, etc. as coercive violations of bodily autonomy.
Maybe if the amendment had a limited public heath exception and some protections for doctors. But the wording would be tricky.
In South Carolina it’s illegal to tattoo above the neck.
(E) It is unlawful for a tattoo artist to tattoo any part of the head, face, or neck of another person.
