So weather, ocean levels/currents, species die-off will continue to get worse, just not as bad? This qualifies as uplifting now?

Maybe this would be better posted to c/A Boring Dystopia

We have to flatten the curve before we can start the decent. Progress > perfection.

I think the message is that what we’re doing works and the situation isn’t hopeless.

Use this to say, “look, what we’re doing is working. Now let’s do it more.”

Didn’t even bother reading after they mentionned electric cars

Well, I mean, they certainly still pollute because of tire and brake pads wear but this is just stuff we eat and breathe. It’s not greenhouse gases so it’s all good.

/s just in case it’s needed.

I used to live in Daytona and would walk around checking out the 100s of vendors set up outside the track during big races and bike weeks. You could see all the brake dust and rubber coating people’s faces and clothes when they came out from the stands.

Tires yes, brake pads, not so much. Electric cars have regenerative braking, so unless you aggresively decelerate on a regular basis, you shouldn’t need to use friction brakes that much. Overall, an improvement over ICE vehicles.

Cars are bad in general, and the minerals used in cars (batteries, in general) are limited and sourced awfully. But what does that have to do with greenhouse gas emissions?

Correct, this is why we should just run every where.

Why?

Well first I hate cars, but that is subjective and explicitly linked to climate change.

Secondly, this is certainly not a solution. It’s an ecology argument for car manufacturers to continue to grow indefinitely, which isn’t compatible with a sustainable way of living.

It’s good on paper, but it’s not enough. Mentalities need to change too, and I doubt they will kindly accept to lower their productivity for the good of the planet
