I bought it last year and didn’t get its name. It blooms then dies, then repeats next season

This one has my vote also - it’s apparently endemic to South Africa! Dunno if that hits your nail on the head or not

It might be Yellow Chincherinchee, Ornithogalum dubium. I used iNaturalist with your photo to suggest and they look pretty similar. You can also try using Seek (an app that uses your camera to identify plants and animals) and with more angles you might get a better result.

I use PictureThis: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.danatech.xingseus

No idea how it does it, but it’s ridiculously good at identifying plants at any stage of growth, even without seeing what I would call identifying features.

Yep, I checked it out and it definitely is a Yellow Chincerinchee. Thank you.

Also the seek app is pretty cool. Thank you!
