Pretty much title!

I’d love to support the developer, but I don’t feel like dropping $100 right now.

You can pay the yearly one and see how it goes in one year, it’s cheaper than ad-free and also with extra feature, more bang for the buck i’d say

I also want to support but the price is ridiculous.

It’s by far the best app but lifetime ultra for 120+ dollars? That’s way too much.

$50 dollars is a reasonable price for this.

I think he factored in 5-10 years of server costs by lifetime members and also his own price which he thinks is reasonable.

Why are there even ads in the first place? No other app has them

What financial model would you like sync to operate under?

Idk, maybe the subscription they also sell?

But that would exclude people who don’t want to or can’t afford the subscription.

This way LJDawson is letting people choose.

I think the dev pays for Imgur and other media hosting site APIs so that is also a factor. No other app displays media as integrated as Sync.

I just tried uploading a picture and it was uploaded to my home instance for sharing. I do not see where imgur comes in the equation.

It’s a cash grab. The ad revenue supports the developer. The $20/year is just a better bulk deal for the devs because they arent subject to the whims of people buying ads. The only interesting bit for me is if the $100 app lasts 5 years in its current form or if they’ll try to charge more for features down the line.

Just going off the 10+ year history we had with this developer on Reddit, he has operated in good faith thus far and added features to Pro without charging for it, so I don’t think he’ll do that. But who knows. You’re buying today with no future guarantees. At least this time we know there’s no central organization that can pull the rug out from under Lemmy.

$20 to get rid of ads forever on an app that you use daily is a fair price. No one gets lynched for subscribing to YouTube premium for $14/mo just to get rid of ads

Two very different things.

How so? Also Spotify Premium at $13/mo when there’s a free version supported by ads

Pretty sure the remove ads is lifetime not yearly (I can’t check as I’m subscribed to Ultra). I think anyway. Ultra is the subscription model.

Ultra also has a lifetime option now.
