My dad has talked about potentially getting into comics, particularly the hulk as he grew up on the Lou Ferigno TV show. I’m not well versed in hulk lore, is there a run that matches the vibe of the TV show? Preferably something collected into a trade.
The Hulk TV show was basically:
“David” Banner walks into town. (TV show execs thought “Bruce” wasn’t masculine enough).
Experiences some heinous small town injustice.
Turns into the Hulk exactly twice to solve the problem.
Walks off to the next small town to sad piano music.
I don’t know of a Hulk run that’s as… limited as the TV show is. Comics don’t have a special effects budget. :)
That’s fair. I haven’t watched the show so I wasn’t sure what it entailed.
There were several nice referrnces to it in the MCU for fans…
Lou Ferigno showed up as a security guard.
In the Ed Norton movie, he’s learning bad Portuguese and spits out “Don’t make me hungry, you wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry.” In the TV show the iconic line was “angry”.
At the end of the Ed Norton movie, he’s hiding out in Alaska under the name “David Banner” complete with sad piano music.
As much as I loved that show as a kid, it was pretty one note. The other person who commented summed it up pretty well. There aren’t any comics I know of that follow the shows premise, but if you want some really amazing Incredible Hulk stories I recommend anything from Peter David’s run from the late 80s to around the early 2000s! Those are my favorite ones!
