This seemed more balanced and upbeat than other reporting on the topic.

I’m always happy to see support for Matter and increased awareness.

The more we expect matter devices and insist on them, the better things get for consumers.

I got a couple of PM plugs with Matter support. I can’t pair them with HomeKit or Home Assistant. I spent about 5h troubleshooting this, inspecting network packets and whatnot and didn’t get any closer to having them working.

I’d rather things just had MQTT support. Happy with Zigbee though, as I can route those to MQTT as well.

@c10l EVE’s Energy have been providing energy metering under Matter for the last few months.

Ok, it was a HA specific solution.

I got a few smart plugs with matter. They paired nicely with HA, but surprised me by falling into their app anyhow.

But they work. Those are Kasa/tp-link.

What’re yours?

@c10l @homeassistant These have been rock solid for me. I am not sure how to see the energy being used.

This is great (seriously).

What remains to be seen is how long it takes between announcement and update of Matter devices.

Or just don’t run any of that “smart” data collecting e-waste.

You’re posting in the home assistant community, instead of acting like a know it all, at least have the self awareness to know what you’re talking about.

you’re right my comment was definitely placed in a community that would not receive it well lol. Did not realize it was this community. Did not realize it was self hosted 😓

The whole point of matter is that it’s local-only control

If you are running it through Home Assistant- or indeed Apple HomeKit - it’s all local - no data collection

I’ll admit I did not realize I was posting in the homassistant community and that that was what this was for 😓
