All the complaints about supposed violations of international law that the US has made in the past really ring hollow now that Johnson has said the quiet part out loud: international bodies are designed to control the “impoverished, barbaric” Global East and South, not the “enlightened” Global West.
Well they did set a precedent when they walked into Iraq against the international bodies wishes.
All the big players learned that if the US won’t play ball, they won’t either.
“rules based international order” we shill relied on appearances of propriety, the more the US acts in this fashion the quicker the system is getting eroded.
Current “leadershIp” is willing to lose a lot face here for a foreign state, which is rather perplexing from national security and sovereignty perspective. What is the US winning here? And if we are not getting anything in return, then why are we supporting Israel’s war crimes at our expense?
I mean, other than Exxon, Shell or BP.
And the Knesset.
And Putin.
But other than that!
That’s why international relations and treaties are hard, since anyone can just decide they don’t want to honor them any more. You need to make it enticing for all parties to stay committed somehow.
