Making steady progress thanks to hiking. I go about 5 miles with a 800ft elevation gain 6 days a week. I will admit it is tough, but it seems to be working. The first month was rough, but July yielded better results. Yesterday was wild since I suddenly dropped 2lbs.

I know there is a pattern to the seemingly random drops, but I love the surprises.

Good job! Hiking has been my go-to exercise across my weight loss and long-term maintenance. Living in mountainous areas has been a big plus. While my feeling is that this sort of exercise is not a solid weight loss strategy by itself, it’s been a critical adjunct for me with all kinds of benefits.

I agree on hiking needing something else. I am also being mindful about calories in.

In the past I have tried fasting, going to the gym, etc, but nothing really worked. The best was when I had an eliptical and I was able to use it for 45 mins most days. I was able to get down to 237, but then I eased off. The thing I like about hiking is that you can’t really quit halfway through. It is over when you get back to the starting point.

Anyway, we’ll see if I can keep it up, but I post here to get some accountability.

It’s amazing how those miles can add up! I mean, while I know how addition works, it’s still astonishing to think of hoofin’ it for 100 miles in a month!

Wow, that’s impressive! I’m a hiker too, but I don’t have the time to do that much hiking. Besides, I’m also looking for birds and other wildlife, so my 5 miles can take nearly 4 to 5 hours, hah.
