anyone got Chromecast with Google TV 4K working with Jellyfin? it runs Android TV, gets the Jellyfin app and then stuff starts breaking.

It can’t connect to the server intermittently, playback stutters, stops, breaks… the server reports the file is direct play and no issues.

Five other devices have no problems of any kind, only this fucker has spells constantly.

What’s you network setup? Is there any chance that it’s connecting through he Internet instead of locally? For example: JF proxies through a VPS, and you’re connected to the VPS address instead of the local address of the server?

Gotta report the same as the others: works fine.

My setup, for reference: Synology 923+, Samsung 4K TV, CCWGTV 4K, wireless connection.

I have set the bitrate to 120 instead of unlimited as someone somewhere recommended it. Only real tip I could give you for LAN streaming.

Let me know if you need more info and hope you can fix it

Absolutely no issue on Google TV with Jellyfin. However, heaps of issues casting with the traditional Chromecast through Jellyfin.

Have you tried setting up Kodi and the Jellyfin plugin instead on it?

Are you trying to play 4k content on a non-4k tv and making the chromecast rescale content? That will result in these issues because the chromecast is a slow POS that needs to play 4k content on a 4k tv

no 4k content, no transcoding (disabled server side), plain ol’ 264/265 files, no other devices have issues. worked fine for the first day or two. it’s possible there was a system update but I don’t know, latest ATV app.

Jellyfin should transcode that server side no?

Jellyfin doesn’t know what screen resolution the chromecast is targeting, either that or the expectation is that on device down scaling is fast enough

Are you sure? The jellyfin client (web or app) knows what resolution it needs, and the transcode logs on my jellyfin server show an output resolution being explicitly defined. Both the source and player are 1080p (no 4K on my server) so I can’t be sure though
