I like what the ublock origin creators/devs have to say about ads/adblocking

It is important to note that using a blocker is NOT theft. Do not fall for this creepy idea. The ultimate logical consequence of blocking = theft is the criminalization of the inalienable right to privacy.

Ads, “unintrusive” or not, are just the visible portion of the privacy-invading means entering your browser when you visit most sites. uBO’s primary goal is to help users neutralize these privacy-invading methodsin a way that welcomes those users who do not wish to use more technical means.

It’s also not just about privacy. It’s also about safety (historically, ads can be a vector for viruses). And it’s about having garbage shoveled in front of you that makes the internet borderline unusable. Which comes back to capitalism and the nature of every space becoming an ad-infested hell because consume product is the god.

Always keep in mind that Mozilla has long since been captured by google as insurance against anti-trust suits like microsoft faced back in the 90s

Sadly FF (and some of its forks) is the best browser we have, but Mozilla’s leadership is constantly sabotaging the project with ads, spyware, anti-privacy-pretending-to-be-privacy (such as this) and stupid feature bloat. Adding more advertising integrations to a browser is an anti-feature on par with the bullshit “Brave” does. But this is done as an underhanded attempt to maintain chrome as a defacto monopoly, despite chrome being designed specifically to erode privacy and being far worse.
