Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the fediverse. I’ve been watching all these spaces since all the Re[dacted]dit shenanigans, and out of all the nascent communities here, I hope this one picks up the most!
Anyway, I feel like astral projection is in a class of its own… similar to regular and lucid dreaming, but markedly different. For instance, there is a common theme of leaving the body. Many times, my body has felt like a cloud of gas, flowing out and dissolving in the wind, yet reforming itself. My point of awareness is often infinitesimal, capable of flying over my bed like a plane flying over mountains, or able to travel through small areas such as the gap underneath my bedroom door. I can also sometimes pass through solid objects. At times, there are bright orbs hovering about. These are not things I experience during normal dreams.
I can’t help but to think AP is overlooked as just another sleep hallucination and that, to me, is a shame, since it’s a very interesting and possibly important psychonautical tool.
So, what are some things you have experienced? Or if you haven’t yet, are you wishing to experience AP and want some tips? Chime in; let’s get a conversation going!
I’d like to experience AP because I have had an intense fascination with and fear of death most of my life. I have alternated between extreme skeptical materialism to a more open minded curiosity and nascent idealism. So primarily I simply want to know if consciousness can exist outside of the body, if we go in after we die.
Next I want to understand what life can possibly be like as a disembodied consciousness, or an astral bodied consciousness. Does life outside of the body have a purpose or is it purposeless? Can it be mundane or boring? is there some ultimate spiritual goal? is there a comparable social and community life?
I guess you could say I am interested in the anthropology and sociology of the afterlife.
Welcome to the community and thank you for sharing your experience.
