I started reading nomadology the war machine and immediately fucking bounced off, humanities majors are built different to understand this shit - since then I’m still in messages with her and like we talk about trans stuff occasionally so that’s cool.
I came out as trans to her, my best friend and aforementioned very close friend on the tenth anniversary of Thatcher getting munched up by maggots so yeah, loggers ig (pictured: the IRA supersoldier maggots writhing through the wicked witch of the British empire’s rotting brain )
Pictured: my brain trying to read Da Lewd Quatari -->
I am declaring a holy war on autocorrect for changing the word poggers to loggers
Jumping right into the depths of 1000 plateaus right off the bat is a lot to take in, especially the war machine chapter. It’s a very dense text and assumes a familiarity with a wide swath of philosophy, and tbh is meant to be a bit esoteric. Don’t feel discouraged though!
Here are some better starting points to their work together, if you want to read primary sources:
-
The first two interviews in Chaosophy, pdf readily available online, are more digestible.
-
The Foucault intro and then first chapter of Anti Oedipus
-
The Massumi forward, and the intro in 1000 plateaus
-
edit: also Deleuze’s stand alone essay, Postcript on Societies of Control. It’s very clear and interesting.
There is a litany of secondary lit on them, but I find them really fun writers to read first hand, even if some of it is absolutely useless imo. I’ve heard the Eugene Holland reader for 1000 plateaus is good.
These videos are helpful and are pretty chill (edit: he tends to read around their politics tho). Just a dude explaining stuff while he shows you videos of his walks lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS35vUMhww4
I’ll keep that in mind if I ever try to understand that word salad again, thanks <3
You should ask her to explain and discuss some of it with you! If there is anything theory nerds like, it’s explaining and sharing ideas that excite them.
i’m the opposite: i got a goth girl to read the Marxism-Leninism-Maoism study guide from FL Press to impress me
Dolce and Gabbana are overrated anyways
Same, people are like “omg you need to read all of the theory ever made to do a communism” and I’m just like
The most important part of being a communist is telling other people to read theory that you’ve never read
