I primarily like psychological and sci-fi films, movies like
Gattaca: mostly love the colors, cinematography, props, and general feel of the suspense of being caught.
Bladerunner: again I like the colors and the stellar cinematography, props and sets are really good.
The Machinist: similar to the movie Enemy, I consider this to be one of my favorite films, the score is really fascinating but I love the silence in these films, there’s also a darkness almost like dream like / night mare like feeling to them I can’t describe but I say recommending films similar to these films would be nice.
Suspiria: another one of my favorite films, the use of color is great, I like the slow progression and the relationship between characters. The acting is really good too. I have to give my respects to the original that came out in the 70s/80s as the sets are spectacular but the story is vastly different. I prefer the newer adaptation it feels like it compliments the time it was set in well.
Just a few of the films I want recommendations for thanks for helping
You might like Annihilation
Bladerunner 2049, imho a rare sequel that’s even better than the original
Mulholland Drive
Manhunter- there’s psychological stuff and it looks incredible.
Redline
Michael Clayton you might maybe like
It’s a tv show but Scavenger’s Reign
Maybe you’ll like Amarcord for the colors
Nightcrawler
Redline bangs in the club for sure
Someone else mentioned Perfect Blue as an anime film that is very solid in the psychological category here.
I also really like The Thing (1982) for a slight psychological thriller/horror pick
Nausicaä is a gorgeous Studio Ghibli film with some post-apocalyptic sci-fi stylings
Dredd is a very over-the-top dystopian sci-fi action film, gorgeous use of color at times, certainly not a very high brow pick, but I enjoy it a fair bit (CW: >!Imagined rape!<)
Stalker
Moon (2009)
I don’t really remember what it was about tbh but the vibe was kind of similar to gattaca
I highly recommend Bacurau. It’s a Brazilian film. Very unique movie I’ve never seen anything like it before.
I’d also recommend watching it without watching the trailer or even reading up on what the story’s about, it’ll hit better that way.
Holy hell, just watched this and it was fantastic. Definitely watch it blind, great suggestion.
