That some damn fine work

The tenacity, or madness to work through how to make that work is amazing.

A long time ago I remember reading about mechanical nano computers as an idea and this got me to look that up again. Apparently that idea is still around and is more prevalent than I expected (though that’s an extremely low bar) e.g. https://www.cnet.com/science/darpa-funds-mechanical-nanocomputer/

This reminds me of Minecraft redstone computers. Its great to see that does translate to the real world too with a GUI. (I’m aware that the very first computers themselves were mechanical calculations machines)

That’s so damn cool. Honestly, stuff like this makes me want to learn some engineering. I’m an electrician so going back to school isn’t really a priority, but down the line…

Right. This is at its core a mechanical computer. This is only a few changes away from doing stuff like calculating real world data

It is calculating real-world data. It’s just specialized and applied calculations.

Yeah, but my hardware knowledge is real basic. Closest I get to stuff like that would be PLCs, but I’m not really an industrial guy.

Maybe as a hobby though
