Sept. 21 (UPI) – Chicago police on Wednesday sought to determine the cause of a building explosion in the city’s Austin neighborhood.

An explosion destroyed nearly every window in the building and caused a partial collapse, as bricks and dust fell onto the street below at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. Several nearby schools went into lockdown as a result of the blast.

Eight people were taken to the hospital, with three of them in critical condition.

Property owner Roman Viere told ABC7 that he has no idea what could have triggered the explosion.

All are welcome to post or comment regardless of location, but posts not directly related to the Chicagoland area will be removed. Please do not disclose the particular neighborhood or suburb in which you live on any hexbear post or via site DM.

  2. BE CAREFUL WHEN DISCUSSING MEETINGS! Do you recognize the username you are speaking to? Are they a new username to you? Please remember, Hexbear is NOT ENCRYPTED! This DOES apply to DM’s as well! It is More than ok to tell someone “let’s slow down” if you have any reason to feel hesitant about arranging anything in person. We recommend using matrix for encrypted messaging.

  3. As hexbear’s first local comm, please remember that this is an experiment. We are prioritizing personal security and caution but we do want to find a way to do some good work in meatspace. All opinions are encouraged to be shared and all boundaries will be respected.

4 . Typical sitewide rules also apply here - don’t be a jerk, do use CW tags when appropriate, and archive reactionary sources with archive.is

Imagine yourself quoted in an op-ed for the Tribune, with your legal name and face next to it. If you’re not comfortable with that, this isn’t the place to say it.

It’s a good idea to make an alt for this comm. Do not reuse a username you have ever used anywhere else. This is the #1 way that doxxings happen,
