Zoomers will never know the annoyance of spending several minutes downloading a playboy photo only to find it won’t display because the first version of Mosaic didn’t do JPEGs, leading to a futile quest to find some free software to view JPEGs that worked on Windows 3.1.

There was a popular image viewer at the time, I was thinking it was IrfanView, but apparently that didn’t exist until 1996 (and still gets updated!).
