Prefer you’d just pipe down and go back to being irrelevant
“Getting?” Canada’s racism is foundational. A bunch of trading corporations “given” supreme legislative authority over half of a continent that only became a country in order to cement the capital accumulation of railway investors who decided the best way to build their railways uninterrupted was slavery, primarily sino-immigrant labour, and torture schools with backyard mass graves. Literally had a “whites-only” immigration policy for like a hundred years, and now it’s a points system that is held up internationally as a gold standard despite being nearly indistinguishable from the Kafala system in the Gulf.
coolie labour
I’m not sure if you’re trying to reclaim this but I think it’s a fairly offensive slur
Ah, sorry in certain activism circles it’s pretty standard to continue to use that term (as well as Indian, rather than Indigenous) when trying to highlight Canada’s history of institutionalized racism, I didn’t consider how people in other contexts may just be unhappy/hurt to see the word. I’ve edited it.
Co*lie is one of those old timey slurs that goes way back to the Victorian era, used primarily by Brits against Indians. It’s kind of weird it’s still being used today, in activism circles no less. It was infamously referred to in Gandhi’s autobiography, when he talks about what he was being called in the railway station in Cambridge.
The more I learn about Kkklanadians the more I’m weirded about you guys
You shouldn’t be surprised, this is the country that overruled the Nuremberg Trials so that they wouldn’t have to reckon with having recruited a shitload of Ukrainian nazis after WWII. You might remember the recent fuss about the entire Canadian House of Commons giving a standing ovation to one of them.
I read the article but I don’t understand enough to get how any of it overrules the Nuremberg Trials, can you give me a hint?
Just scanned through, 2nd to last paragraph:
While the commission’s final report stated that the numbers were grossly exaggerated, the report admitted that it had not investigated materials kept either in the Soviet Union or Eastern Bloc countries, and that it further had not investigated an addendum list of 109 names provided late in the inquiry. Further still, it was later revealed that the commission withheld evidence and ignored the findings of other war crimes trials, such as the Nuremberg trials.
Canada got by for a long time by an international reputation for being apologetic and polite, but if you want to see how bad it can get here, ask the average Canadian their feelings about first nations or immigrants. I would easily say 3/4 of this country believes immigrants are the reason for the intense cost of living crisis no matter how much proof or arguments to the contrary
Canada is a dollar store version of the US, they compensate for not being the united states by amplifying all the political and cultural trends from their southern masters.
Calling Canada a petro state is being generous, it’s an outpost for extraction. It’s a gulf state in becoming that has slavery but none of the UBI. It’s a financial sponge that perpetuates a real estate bubble. All of it is duct taped together with a “nation project” written by Mc Kenzie and Deloitte
Canada is legit what Milei’s argentina but for all political spectrum
They’re not getting more racist they’re just getting worse at pr
