I’m gonna go on a little rant about Halloween. Kids, pets and even adults dressing up, meeting your neighbours having a bit fun. I’m all for that. Decorate your house inside and out. Great.

Now here’s the thing. People take this shit way to far. Instead of just walking a few streets with your kids, meeting new people, it’s now “let’s go and collect as much shit as possible from strangers before others get there”.

How do we do that? We will drive around in our people mover looking for houses because Facebook mums have posted where the best streets are for little Johnny to collect his treats and he’s only 3 and the size of a small hippo and he can’t walk far.

It’s now a car door slamming competition with a stampede. Aussies are great innovators. We take shit from around the world and we adapt them to suit us. Halloween is not one of them we do well.

I loved it back in Canada, cause it was the norm. Streets were full of kids and adults. 90% of houses were decorated and people got into the spirit of it.

Here it seems to forced and unnatural. Which is why we hand out caramel covered onions to all the trick or treaters.

Let’s not forget the whole “I’ll post my address online so I can lure your children in for the promise of a candy bar”. Yikes.

My go to is little packets of wasabi peas. Perfectly wholesome - even healthy. Don’t often see the same faces twice though. Heh heh.

This is the best most multi-faceted accurate hot take of the day.

Fuck little johnny and the bite sized snickers he rode in on.

I’ve got no problem with the little Johnnys of this country. It’s the parents who are pimping their kids out so they can gorge on the fruits for ron.

These people sound greedy as hell, and in being this competitive are kind of missing the point of the exercise.

I love Halloween in theory but I deliberately play possum to avoid being approached by strangers’ children… or really anybody.

Same . At the same time there are few young families around here.

I find it an interesting opportunity to observe the different facets of human nature. I live in an area with lots of young families and I like seeing the hand crafted decorations that the family have made as a craft exercise. Who are the people who make their own, and who obviously spends way too much money on that stuff? Which children take only a small portion of treats, making sure there’s plenty left for other children, and who grabs repeated handfuls of treats or even pours the entire treat bowl into their goody bag! Which parents dress up and get out there mingling with others in the pleasant early evening, laughing and handing out treats? Which parents put a bowl out and play possum? Which parents deliberately ignore the blatant greed of their children and fiddle with their phone, or actively encourage their children to take all the treats! It is endlessly fascinating for me to observe and I am totally there for it.

Ted Cat’s stroller has been attained, put together and tested with Ted sitting in it outside. He likes it. 😊 Tomorrow morning I will take him for a walk in the park. There will be pictures. 🐈‍⬛🛞📦🛞

I did not get the nice place I applied for on Monday despite offering 15/week more. At least they told me quick smart.

I may have good news with the other place though, pending clarification of some weird half baked email I got that was missing attachments. It’s painful how much I’ll be paying relative to the size, and lack of greenery, and noise, but I’m reframing it as like a temporary apartment stay to finish my studies. Because I only need to commit till about mid next year. And that means FREEDOM.

I will have to cull a lot, but at it’ll feel like I’m really committing to closing this chapter of my life. No more coasting along.

Cross all your digits for me DT! The sooner I’m done with this the better 🤞

I think the cost of living shit starting to seep through to even the landlord class is having an impact (though in their case I want to emphasise that taxes on investments isn’t a cost of living issue).

People are feeling under the pump. I’ve got half a mind to disappear to a monastery over the end of the year
