DAY 9 of the 30 Day Song Challenge, alternative music styles!
Letโs see all those Shiny Happy People out there! What song is guaranteed to put a smile on your face & get your mood feeling mighty fine???
Each day Iโll post the challenge and you share some of your favorite alternative & indie songs that meet the challenge!
The New Pornographers, Falling Down The Stairs Of Your Smile.
Ooo!!! NP! Yes. For me from them, the song โMass Romanticโ gets me boppinโ hard!
Their new record is incredible. Not as poppy but a great vibe. Saw them live in the spring and it was fantastic.
I love their new record!!! Horns, a little experimental, so good. My only complaint is the leadoff song which was a castaway from the last album - it doesnโt fit the vibe.
Damn, I havenโt listened to The New Pornographers in years. Now I know what Iโm listening to the rest of the day.
The song is nothing but a blast to sing and dance to, makes me deeply happy!
โCha Cha Chaโ by The Little Ones
Dead Milkmen - Punk Rock Girl - My cool older cousin introduced me to the Dead Milkmen before Beelzabubba came out and gave me his Bucky Fellini tape. So this song inspired some fond memories anyway, but then itโs also just so damn good. Absolute classic.
Watching the video this morning, I think this was actually a really formative musical moment for me. Super catchy, slightly subversive, kind of awkward & nerdy bands/songs have appealed to me ever since. Iโd say without even knowing it, this song really paved the way for a love of power pop.
I have no idea how I deleted my commentโฆ

Nothing to Fear, by Depeche Mode
Cake - Love You Madly never fails to put a smile on my face.
I love Cake. Have you heard Cheekface? Their deadpan vocal delivery and absurb lyrics often remind me of Cake.
