Is anyone else worried about missing out on content because you didn’t realize the instance you signed up for had been defederated by another or something?

I’ve signed up on multiple instances, but I’m not sure which one has the best “vision” of all the larger instances. I wish I could see some sort of visual map/web of the fediverse. Anybody have any tips?

A map? Maybe even a Lemmy Map.

You can check which instances Lemmy at least is federated with. I think kbin has the widest “net” (its layout lends itself pretty well to both Mastodon and Lemmy-style posts) but I also think defederation is a nuclear-style option that isn’t going to see a Ton of use. Tho there are people calling for greater control of individual federation, for example if a kbin user didn’t want to see Mastodon toots they could just toggle that.

Beehaw would disagree. I’m all for community with a focus on inclusivity but as far as I’m aware the mods of lemmy.world dealt with the problematic communities pretty quickly and people can also just not look at harmful communities or content and move on with their lives so they don’t have to cut both groups off from the great amount of content on either instance.
