I’ve never played any Baldurs Gate, but am interested in playing the upcoming one. Checking proton db, it looks like the previous games had good Linux support (even native support?).

What are the odds we’ll see Linux compatibility with this newest one?

dunno about native, but I played the early access version on my steamdeck and didn’t have any issues. (didn’t go super far into the game, but it definitely runs solid under proton)

The 3rd is very different in character than the original 2. It has more in common with Divinity: Original Sin (1&2) than the original games, so they’re the best ones to check out compatibility wise.

DOS2 is ranked gold on protondb, so if expect it to work (eventually)

I played it using Lutris. I think I had to use winetricks to install .net and after that it ran flawlessly. Do a search on the net. I think the same can be done for Steam using Protontricks. It is such a cool game and if BG3 is anything like it, I am stoked.

These days most games work out of the box with the latest version of wine/proton/dxvk. I stopped checking for compatibility.

Very good support. The latest Proton Experimental had updated support for Baldur’s Gate 3. I can’t wait for the official release!

I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 in Proton ever since the Early Access released and it works fantastically in Linux! Can’t wait for it to be released in August.
