Of course they do. They only exist in the first place to deflect from corporate responsibility for climate change.

Jfc, I think it’s evident that there is absolutely no thought or planning put into those kinds of changes

Of course there is. The thought is, “How can we use this situation to make money?”

I’ve always known the plastic straws thing was bullshit, but it didn’t hit me how bullshit it is until I tore open six plastic containers of butter to put on my [fast food franchise] hot cakes the other day. What’s the point of me not using a straw for my orange juice? I just wasted two dozen straws worth of plastic to put two tablespoons of butter on my breakfast. At least the straw serves a purpose other than getting in my damn way.

Adding this to my list of why straw bans are and always have been pointless yet ableist bullshit designed to make people feel like they contributed, which they did, to another distraction from and by the source of the problem.

Edit: from dumpster fire that are the comments to this over on lemmy.world it’s obvious that reality doesn’t matter, people will still just endorse whatever requires least effort from them to get a pat on the back, no matter how insignificant or even harmful what they’re doing is. This topic never fails to get my blood boiling (mostly because it’s such a ridiculous and useless thing to cling on to , but it’s like people relish the opportunity to take more away from disabled people).
