If you guys ever visit Japan, make sure to visit one of the many second hand stores. I would advice against visiting one in a touristy spot like Shibuya though. At least the ones I visited there seemed to be a lot more pricy. But even the shops in more rural areas have an awesome selection of clothes, which are in top shape. In my home country most second hand shops smell of old fabric and you have to look really hard to find something good. In Japan everything smells fresh and there are so many cool options.

All the second hand shops in my home country usually reek of wayy too much parfume, which I, as an allergic, very much dislike. Takes a few weeks to months of repeated washing to be able to wear anything secondhand.

Do the clothes actually smell fresh, or have they just been doused in inhumane amounts of parfume?

I’d love to go scrapping/second hand shopping once I get to Japan.

DXL pre-perfumes their clothes for you, which pisses me off. Neat to meet someone else that’s allergic to perfumes.

I’ll be going to Japan this January, where did you look for these 2nd hand shops?

Shimokitazawa was a place I keep hearing about.

Any struggles you can share?

+1 for shimokitazawa, there were several around when I visited ~5 yrs ago. Lots of bars / cafes etc too, nice place to visit!

Yes!!! That’s so true! They take such good care of their clothes over there. I bought all my clothes from thrift stores because they were like new! And cheaper.

They have a lot of chains. One of the big ones is 2nd street. You can find them in almost any district in and around Tokyo.
