I have made a few of these as gifts for cat lovers in the family. The cats are made of three layers of 3mm birch plywood cut out on my laser cutter.

Oh man those are amazing! My laser has been sitting unused for ages now. I have to make sure the dog knows I prefer the cats over him, so I think I might try and find some files for something like this!
