Treasurer Stephen Mullighan says that if the universities of Adelaide and South Australia don’t “voluntarily” agree to amalgamate they risk losing merger support funding while still facing a government-established inquiry to “find ways in which the universities can merge”.
I still don’t understand why the merger is necessary Seems like an unnecessary consolidation and removal of competition.
- the two unis are completely different in the way they approach reaching courses and the way they are perceived in the general public. Id go so far as to say they’re somewhat incompatible.
Adelaide uni is more prestigious and old school in its ideals, has a bit more class clout to it and is better for people who learn well in that environment.
unisa is somewhat more new school - a bit more practical and modern its course design, material and teaching methods, while not being so deep in practicality as to step of TAFES toes.
